The Power of Expression

Writing has been one of my constants in life. The topics changed , style changed, but I never left it, and it never left me.

They say books are our best friend, so who is the best friend for those that write those books? Writing is.

It can be empowering in its own way, there is no defined way of expressing yourself through writing.

The mere articulation of words that make sense is itself a wonder, a piece of art. Sometimes, I go back and read what I wrote, sometimes to marvel at it with surprise, seldom, coming back with disappointment.

Secrets are always written when cannot be told to anyone, since the human being needs to express themselves. It is a need to express. And it should be done in your own beautiful way. There is no hard- and- fast rule.

For me, it is writing. Or typing. Like I typed this article. You will figure out your way of expression. Your body tells you before you know it. There is a very powerful TED talk by Ashley Stahl, which talks about the reaction of your body to things that you feel are good for you, and things that are not so good. Feel free to watch it at this link :

It is an art, being able to express. You will always feel something is missing if left unexpressed. Be it feelings, emotions ( yes they are two different things), thoughts( yes, these are three different things, google it).

If you feel you want to be more expressive and are scratching your head to get some ideas, try things that make you feel like you are a kid again. From my perspective, that is something I feel it gives a sense of freedom to be fully ourselves. For starters, here are some ideas:

  1. Write. If you want to express, write something, just something. It will look like nonsense or poetic, does not matter, just write that paper out.
  2. Sing. Sound like a guitar with broken strings or as melodious as Shreya Ghoshal, JUST SING.
  3. Read. This is mostly for people that are curious about things around them, or simply want to start reading like me. ( I was this close to reading Dan Brown yesterday)
  4. Dance. I shall say nothing more for this.

Most important of all, don’t evaluate yourself on the basis of Instagram reels or Tiktoks that do these very things. You will get full marks anyway for trying to express.

My dear readers, if you read this far here is a bonus TEDx talk for you. The funniest and the best talk!!!

Drumrolls are important.

Here it is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LZ7QqoY_1w

It can lead you from Confusion to Conclusion. Just see how confused Swapna Patker must have felt when she was trying to find her way to express herself.

That’s all for today, hope you enjoyed the read!
